i have a 2003 f350 with 6.0l, truck died and would not start, took it in to shop, they told me i needed a new hpop pump and ipr valve, they wanted $2,980.00 for the repair, with the written estimate i went to the ford dealer and purchased all the parts i needed to do the repair myself, after a long weekned of tearing the top of engine apart and replacing all parts needed, the truck still will not start, i replaced the hpop, ipr valve, new o-rings where needed, new intake gaskets, anyone have any ideas wy still get no start
First how long/how many times did you try to start. In my experience when the HPOP oil system is drained it takes 3 or 4 attempts for pressure to build for the ICP and IPR to recognize
Did you double check all electrical connectors
Do you have an ECL on
I Have never changed an HPOP myself but I am sure others in here have. Did your HPOP resevoir drain out when you removed the pump. If so that oil will take some time to refill and gravity flow back to the pump.
I agree with AK, it can take a fair amount of cranking to get it to fire, just make sure you only crank it for 30 seconds or so at a time with a rest in between so you don't damage your starter. Also gauges that read live data would go a long way in helping you diagnose your problem, like scan gauge II or the smartphone app Dashboss for IOS devices. Does the oil pressure gauge on the dash come up to normal range when you are cranking?
i've tried for 2 days now, i'm going to check all wiring again, i read on some other posts about lubing o-ring when replacing hpop cover, something i failed to do, i hope i didn't break that o-ring, what is an ecl?
Silly question did you take the plastic plugs out of the new H/P pump?Have to ask as I have seen that more than once.
As mustang_309 asked, does the oil pressure gauge (on the dash)show a reading when you are cranking it?
Its pretty Obvious IMO that when shop said you needed to replace the HPOP & IPR that they didnt really know what the problem was and were in Over there Heads!! Of coarse this is only my Opinion and Honestly TRUE at this point since you replaced what they said the problem was!!!!!!!!
I know you have spent probably more Money then you really wanted to by Now But its very important you get a Gauge to read live Data
Without a Gauge to read Live data and get trucks operating values you are Basicaly throwing Parts at it
You might only need a ICP sensor IDK yet Best to do a Thuro Diagnostic before you spend Any Money on parts
If you do have a HPO Problem you must start the TroubleShooting at the Low Pressure Oil Side of the system. Got to have LPO to be able to make HPO so you need to remove oil filter hold drain closed and Crank engine over with the starter to see if the Oil Filter housing Fills Fast
Without any gauges all you can do is Unplug the ICP sensor and try to start it
If it Starts ICP unplugged then you have about a 95% chance its a Bad ICP
And the Other 5% is you have a Problem elsewhere in the HPO System and all unplugging the ICP sensor did was FOOL the PCM in thinking it hit the HPO threshold and Turned the FICM on to fire the injectors
And when you unplug the ICP sensor if you find Oil has Blown threw to the Electrical connector the ICP sensor is Bad Regaurdless and Must be replaced if this condition exists
i do get a reading on my dash oil pressure gauge while cranking,
i removed oil filter cap after replacing hpop and after cranking, new filter was saturated with covered in oil, will try disconnecting icp and try starting
