I am thinking of buying a new F150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost Crew Cab & 4X4. I was wondering if any of you have opinions on this engine. I am wondering if the gas MPG is what is stated and what the power is like as we will be pulling a 28' TT weighing in about 7500-8000 lbs.
The ecoboost will yank this trailer around without issue. You should purchase a properly equipped truck with the max tow package to pull this weight. That will put you into a truck with the 3.73 axles which will ultimately affect your gas mileage to some degree, but the power will be stunning.
There are plenty of guys on here with the very package that I'm speaking of, I'm certain they will be happy to chime in and help out some.
I tow a 7500lb enclosed race trailer every weekend. Pulls it at 70 mph in 6th gear without issue. At 70 i get 10mpg if i stay closer to 60-65 i have averaged 11.5 mpg.
I havent done a tank of fuel of all highway since owning it. I live about 6 miles from where i work and since the weather has warmed up i have been getting 18.5 mpg mixed city/highway. I wasnt happy with the MPG this winter really, because i felt it wouldnt come up, but it sure has. I want to get it out on the highway and see what i really can get. I bet i can average 19.5 on the highway at 70.
Power is intoxicating. So much tq. Cant wait to get mine tuned, i hear they are just crazy after that.
Id buy a livernoise tune but they dont use the SCT X3. Which almost everyone else uses.
For all out power and MPG i hear thay there 93V2 tune is the way to go. But for towing i hear that 5 star is better. Would be nice to be able to mis and match all tuners. Currently more people use SCT so thats what i will be using. Which elminates Livernoise.
I have a 2013 with Max Tow with 157" wheel base and 4WD. The Ecoboost tows with no problem with lots of low and mid-range torque. MPG's start out a bit low, but gets better after it gets some miles on it (about 2,000 miles or so). I'm in the 15's right now, with a lot of stop and go driving and a bit of a heavy foot. Max Tow is not a must towing 7,500 to 8,000 lbs., but is a very good idea, as it has larger engine and trans coolers, radiator, and a stronger rear bumper assembly.

Larger radiator, but the transmission cooler is the same for every F150 with the trailer tow package. Otherwise completely agree, a 4x4 EcoBoost crew cab is rated to tow 9,300 lbs with 3.31s. I've towed a lot more weight with a lot less power, and with the 6-speed auto I'd be very comfortable towing 8,000 lbs with 3.31 gears.
i got 2013 ecoboost 373 6.5 bad i drive the truck all the time my mph r city 14.5-15.5 hwy 19.5-20.5 70mph and towing i have 29' snowmobile trailer full loaded with 6 sleds all grear with speed 65-70 mph i will 12.5-13 but if u go
75-up 9.0-10.5 but when u pulling that heavy u do feel nothing sound and feel like empty it's very good truck

I've heard nothing but good about the ecoboost and know 2 people who have them. Seems to have good power but you must remember its only a half ton. Too many people get rapped up in the motor and forget the suspension, brakes, sway bar's, etc is nothing like a 3/4 or 1 ton. There is a reason why the ecoboost doesnt come in 3/4 and 1 tons. A 7500 lb trailer is a big load for a half ton and potentially dangerous.

I agree. A half-ton truck and a heavy trailer feels like the "tail is wagging the dog."

I don't. A badly configured trailer behind ANY size tow vehicle will feel the same way. A 3,000 lb trailer behind an F350 is dangerous if loaded wrong.
I've towed far heavier than most, and I'm a CDL holder and former professional driver. A properly set up 7,000 lb trailer behind an F150 is far safer than an improperly loaded one behind a dually.
