Ditto on the mirror position. I am 6'3" and I only have a 32 inch inseam. So I sit tall. If I was shorter I would definitely love that above the mirror set-up though.

Dang...I am 6'3" and a 33-34 inseam....never had an issue with that in the F250. Have seen it in smaller vehicles though. I really liked the overhead mounting and wish I could find a like setup when I get ready to add gauges to the Lightning.

Nothing against Clay and or ISSPRO, but Autometer is American made as well. I personally like the look of autometer better and you have different styles to choose from. The ISSPRO's just look "1st grade artwork" to me.

I got my quad pillar and 3 autometer PhantomII gauges from an Ebay seller. paid $334.94 out the door shipped. Over 3 years on them and not a single problem.

Having said that... You definitely can't go wrong purchasing from RiffRaff and I hear very few complaints about ISSPRO.

How in the world are you guys with the windshield mounted, top of the mirror guages getting them to stay?

I've tried just about every windshield glue known, and even had a professional windshield install company use their glue and nothing holds.

Put the top of your rearview 2 3/4" from the roof at the windshield. If the view out the window is OK... there ya go.

Thats my point. 1-2 inches of my height is in my torso so I sit taller in the seat, so even with the seat adjusted all the way down, I still prefer to move the mirror up and out of the way so I can see batter in front and slightly to the right.

When I first had a problem with the gauge pod, I took a close look at it and thought it was designed more for a flat surface that the slightly curved shape of the windshield. The back of the pod is slightly recessed as compared to the edges of the pod, so I think the velcro that goes between the pod and the windshield is always under tension. Add heat from the sun, and the glue backing on the velcro pulls away from the glass.

What I did was cut up some plastic and glue that to the back of the pod with super glue. Then I attached the velcro to that plastic. I ended up using the head of a black plastic spatula (it was my wife's idea!), which I cut into two pieces, each about 1" x 2", one of which was glued to each side of the back of the pod. The beveled shape of the spatula head worked really well, as I was able to put the thickest part toward the center of the pod, where the center of the windshield would be. This somewhat compensates for the curvature of the windshield.

Hope that helps.

Velcro here, too.

I used 3M double sided tape as filler.

Nothing so far has been able to keep the velcro glued to the glass. I'm thinking of taking a drum sander on a dremel and roughing the glass to it isn't so smooth, and then maybe the glue will stick. Either that or buy some acid etching compound.

Maybe some kind of diamond covered surface, not your wife's ring, like a diamond coated file. Biggest challenge is the curve of the glass though if using a file.

I think Dremel has a diamond engraving tip that might work. Biggest challenge is controlling the 'damage'.

I think TUGLY's positioning of where the gauges should be, is the best. Keep as much of your gauges and goodies out of prying eyes. Gauges tend to grow legs quick and take flight. It has happen to me this year where someone broke my drivers window and took off with my Isspro gauges that were on my post. Anyway, right above my rear view mirror is my new VIPER/DEI/CLIFFORD alarm antennas and below that, is the expressway/freeway surpass.

Thought I had my windshield mount really squared away with meticulous prep work, to where I was not going to have any glue issue with the windshield. After a nearly two week roadtrip through Utah with nothing but 95-105 degree days proved me wrong. The glue that's on the Industrial Velcro which then attaches to the windshield softened up enough to cause my above mirror mount to start sagging.

I'm determined to make that location work, so maybe I'll try what Tugly suggested, the 3M 5200 adhesive. I'll have to test some on some spare Velcro just to make sure it doesn't eat through it.

Sounds promising. I never quite understood the velcro attachment. While good in theory, if you have to remove gauge cluster, I can't imagine the velcro releasing before the adhesive. Maybe with the 3M adhesive, it it will work as intended.
