PLEASE HELP :D
Hello all, love the forum. Have been reading religiously since i started working on my 1986 ford f150 4.9L straight 6. I have done clapers, break pads, booster, master cylinder, rebuild my carburetor, replaced my sparks and did an oil change. Today I spent all day fixing someones joke of a manual choke. Installed the proper automatic with the temp sensitive spring (had fun finding it). So today after tweaking my carb, it no longer stalls wile I am holding the break in drive. Well after all I am ready to take her out for the long test drive. I got smoking engine! Leaking oil (thankfully did not pull out past my drive way). Through investigation I found that some fool electrical tapped the pipes from the oil cooler leading to the drive shaft if I am not mistaken (yes this truck has been in some bad hands). So I am going to replace the pipes and oil cooler (assuming it may be bad aswell).
Is the oil cooler cooling the final drive oil? Because the pipes seem to lead just past the transmission fluid pan.
If I replace my the oil cooler and new pipes would that confirm my issue will be fixed? Assuming pipes were tapped because they were leaking
I only been working on this truck for 8 days and sadly the books I have do not help. Cant even find a oil pump diagram in it....

Hey itking, welcome to the forum.
I think you might be talking about the smog pump, also called air pump. It feeds air to the catalytic converter to make it more efficient. There is a picture of the front of an 86 F150 motor in the 2nd photo in my build thread. I've copied it here for you. The air pump is on the top on the passenger side.
You weren't specific but I assume it burning oil on the exterior of your motor. Your motor may be leaking oil and getting it on the exhaust or other hot parts. Hopefully, the smoke is not coming from your exhaust.
I hope that helps.
