Question 1960 4-wd

I have a 1960 F100 4wd long box thats missing the drive shafts and I am wondering if anyone knows if the drive train componets (particularly the drive shafts) are the same on it as they would be on a 1963 F100 4wd long box.
Thanks. Jere

Jere,
Unfortunately, I'm responding only with what I hope will be a helpful suggestion, but unfortunately I do not have an immediate answer to your question per say.

If you haven't done so already, you might also try posting this same thread under "Misc- Transmissions, Axles, Differentials, etc" forum here on FTE.

That's not to say that someone here doesn't have the answer for you, but you can get twice the feedback and possibly expedite an answer for yourself in so doing. Hope you don't take this suggestion the wrong way; I entirely submit it with hopes of getting your thread answered, putting your question first and foremost.

Best of luck with your thread/question...
Daryl

Hi Jere,

The 1960 and 1963 F-100 LWB 4x4 both had the same engine options, rear axle, and transfer case. The wheelbase was different though.

1960 = 118" wb
1963 = 120" wb

Not sure if that means front, rear, or both are different?

The 1960 F-100 LWB 4x4 uses a "type 4" driveshaft.
The part number for both driveshafts (front & rear) is: B9T 4605-L

Dimension "A" (length) = 37-13/32"
Dimension "B" (Diameter) = 3"

I'm sorry, but I don't have these dimensions for the '63.

Hi guys,
Kenny, I'm asuming the measurement you gave me is for the front and rear driveshafts, right?
Does anyone know where I could find the length of the middle shaft (the one that connects the transmission and T-case) as well as the lengths of the shafts off the 63?
Thanks for your help. Jere

Hi Jere,
Sorry about that. Looks like I forgot to list the coupling shaft dimensions.

I tried to look it up for you, but apparently they are different dimensions depending on which tranny you have. Let me know which tranny you have and I'll look it up again.

As for the '63 info, maybe one of the guys over on the '61-'66 forum might have a parts and accessories catalog for 1963. I got the above 1960 info from '60 catalog.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kenny,
My transmissiom is a 4 speed (on the floor). If that's not enough info, tell me what else I need.
I'll ask in the 61-66 section to check about the shafts for the other truck.
Thanks a lot.
Jere

Hi,
That's all the info needed.

The coupling shaft (transmission to transfer case) part number is: B5C 4816-B
The dimensions are:
Length "A" = 19-25/32"
Dia. "B" = 2"

I hope this helps.

No problem Jere, glad to help. Wish I was able to help you on the '63 info.

Have you thought about having new shafts made up at a driveshaft shop?

Kenny, I checked at one local fabricating shop, and it seemed like it would be pretty pricy, but I might just have to go that route because I measured the shafts on the 63 that I was hoping to get them from, and they were all different lengths than the measurements you gave me; the front and rear ones were each about one inch longer and the coupling shaft was about seven inches shorter than the lengths you gave me. So I guess I'll have to do some more checking and see what I can figure out.
Thanks for your help, Jere
