I have a 1993 F150 4X4 Shortbed 5 Speed. For about the past few days when I'm driving to school the check engine light will come on for about 30 seconds at a time and then go out. It usually does it two or three times a trip. I looked it up in my owners manual and it said to see if the light comes on and then goes out when you start the truck. It comes on and goes out when I start it like it should. If it doesn't come on at the start then it says there is a problem. It also said that if the light comes on briefly and then goes out when you are driving it means a problem is no longer present. So should I be worried about this?
if it's not changing the way it drives, then I wouldn't worry, but if your gas mileage is down or it's running rough, I'd pull some codes to see what sensor is making the light come on.
The computer makes all the lights flash when ignition is turned on. the check engine light is the last to go off, and should be gone when your engine starts.
If it flashed while driving you have problems. go to Fordfuelinjection.com and read. There is an easy test to gather the diagnostic codes on that site. If you can't do that then try your local mechanic or parts store, it takes 5 minutes or less to check the codes and may save you from being stranded or burning too much gas. Anotherwards, a check engine light could be serious or minor, there is no way to tell, your engine may be ready to die, or it could use just alittle TLC, the codes will tell!
