6.7 problems?? Yes, no?
I'm at 82,000 miles and other than oil changes and a couple of software updates, It has not seen the dealer. That right there is better than my 7.3L or 6.0L ever did.
I've not had the best luck with that piece of hardware on my truck.
My 6.7L engine, however, is flawless thus far.
I did lose my turbo driving down the highway awhile back but that was a PCM firmware issue and not hardware so that doesn't count as an engine repair.
I certainly wouldn't hesitate to purchase a 2013 if I were in the market.

That said, the engines in these trucks are spectacular. My transmission.....not so hot. Regardless of my issues though, I still maintain that these are the best HD trucks on the road and if I were in the market for one, I'd definitely get another. I think they've gotten the issues with the transmissions worked out by now.

Hi John.

How goes it? Good to see ya here. I've noticed you on some of the other FTE Forums. Staying busy helps pass the time.
I have to ask tho, what issues? I thought FORD told you it was normal for our trucks to shift like a teenage school girl trying to learn how to drive a standard transmission, and have shift flares whereby when you step on the throttle, all you get is high rpm's and no tranny engagement. If that's not normal then why did they have to, "work out any issues"?
I know, I'm being a smart alek, but if there wasn't anything wrong before, why did they make changes?
Hope your ordeal is nearing satisfaction.

You hit the nail on the head. I purposely stay out of threads like this most of the time because I'm not going to gloom and doom and bring everyone down.

And truly, I believe I got the "one truck out of xxx trucks" that had issues. I don't think it's the norm but Ford needs to handle it better. I had the same questions you just asked and I asked them why they did over $3k in parts and labor (under warranty) in one visit alone, if it was all normal. I got the standard response....."It's operating as it should and these are normal operating characteristics of the transmissions in these trucks". The issues with mine go a lot deeper than this but I won't clog the OP's thread with the details.
All of those questions are great but unfortunately, no one at Ford has been able to answer any of them for me.

And yes, my situation is about to be resolved within the next week with any luck. Thanks for asking buddy.
I'll stop back by the WIH thread tomorrow sometime.

To the OP....sorry for the hijack.

My advice is get what will make you happy and get the job done and if that's the Super Duty, go for it. Like I said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed it in the future.
I think if you buy one you will be very pleased.
My truck is a job 1 June 2010 build date. I have almost 36000 on my truck and have had a few issues. One is the tranny shifting. After a couple computer flashes and changing out the solenoids and a fluid swap, mine is pretty much the same as it has been. Herky jerky, clumsy and once in a while embarrassing. But for the most part, it works fine.
The shocks and the steering stabilizer are junk and should be replaced as soon as you can afford to. It took three trips to a local alignment shop to get my truck to quit the early death wobble effect it had.
The spring rates on these trucks are pretty weak. If you load them up heavy, you can expect a shudder in the rear end upon take-off. It's a driveline angle issue. You can shim the rear axle to change the angle when loaded, but then you have the problem when empty. Some folks have had good results using airbags to supplement the weak spring rates.
There have been a few turbo issues and a few valve train issues. Again, most of those in the 2011 range models.
There are a few High Pressure Fuel Pump, HPFP, issues too, but I think some of those have been mis-fuel problems caused by the owners.
I don't mean to come across wrong. The truck is pretty solid. I just don't like doing R&D for a major Corp, and then when you try and seek warranty help, you are told there is nothing wrong. Then in the next model year, they make changes and address the issue the previous year reported without consideration to the previous model years.
There are problems with all brands. Pick the one you want and feel most comfortable with. They will all get the job done.

One thing I did learn about this is that buying a first year model isn't always a wise move. Some folks have had great experiences with 2011 models while a few others have not. I'll wait a year or so from now on when a vehicle is introduced before I buy. Not saying all '11s are bad. There are many, many great 2011 SDs out there and many, many happy owners.
All in all though, you should be good to go with a 2013 model. The major kinks should be worked out now and I really don't recall reading any complaints or problems with them so far.
