Hey all,
I have 2001 f-350 7.3 California pickup. replaced both batteries and then replaced what I thought was the GPR, Now I understand that it is the AIH I replaced with a GPR , is this OK? My batteries keep running down if I do not start the pickup every few hours. Is the GPCM bad? How do I test it? Why is the batteries running down?
Theres a thread on here somewhere that tells you how to put a meter on the batteries for voltage then pull out and replace one fuse at a time to see what circuit is drawing the juice. Like said it could also be in the alternator as well.

If your GPCM were bad it would throw a code. So if no codes, it's fine. The GPR is just a relay nothing special. Same as the AIH relay. No harm. You don't really even need the AIH anyway.
If I remember right, disconnect your negative battery cable then measure your voltage between the negative post and the cable, or any part of the truck that grounds to the frame. Then pull a fuse and check again. when you pull a fuse and have no voltage that's whats draining your battery.
You may have to pull the ground off of both batteries, i haven't had to do this test for a few years. Check relays first. I had a '92 bronco that the fuel pump relay stuck on and the fuel pump stayed on till the battery died.
We're the batteries going dead in a few hours before you replaced the relay or did this start after the relay replacement? If your batteries are going dead in a few hours you have a huge draw. Relay is shorted or wired incorrectly.
Thanks guys, I am good with the meter, I will check all noted above to find the draw, I also put a meer to find any issues with the GPCM no issue only issue that came up was the turbo sensor or vacuum leak which i found and fixed,
Did you find your draw ? Your last post leads me to think they were talking about a scan tool . They were talking about a multimeter with amp capability . Just asking .
Did this check and no voltage on fuse check, alternator is good, batteries are good, 12.5, still having issue with truck sitting for a period and not starting just cranking battery draw when trying to start goes way down? i am stumped
Have you had the batteries charged and load tested? Unless you reconnected the AIH incorrectly and it's always energizing, hard to imagine a good set draining that quickly.
Try testing for continuity between the 2 large poles on the AIH with the key off. Shouldn't be there.

I attached the positive lead to pole that has the battery wire to it and the negative lead to negative post on battery and getting 12.6. with key off, when i take the neg lead to the other pole it shows 12.5, isn't the neg lead just a ground to that pole? when i test the leads to the small poles one lead on neg batt post and pos lead on pole it shows .89 on both small poles, is that right.
there are 5 wires to the AIH, one from batt to large pole, one from AIH large pole to heater and another from the same large pole to what? then i have the wires to the small poles thanks for the help
