I have 6 bronco's and all of them have the bucket seats with the center console in them. 4 of them are 79's and 2 of them are 96's. Obviously its a personal preference and I prefer the bucket seats, just a more comfortable ride IMO. My son has a bench in his 79, and is going to swap in buckets this summer after driving mine for a week or so...He is sold on the ride and comfort of the buckets as well.
All of my 79-79 Broncos had buckets. My buddies 79 Bronco had a bench. I thought it rode different than the buckets. My 79 F-150 had a bench....I installed buckets from a bronco!!! I preferred the buckets.
Only me and one other person like benches? That's sad Oh well, I just like the versatility of them. More leg room and a place to sleep seeing as the rear seat is too stiff. Plus going back to the female part of it, I'm not saying I've done much but I've seen how useful they can be Too bad girls cost more than the truck... I've ridden in a 79 with buckets once when my brother had one, the seat belts didn't work, the spring were shot and the adjustment rails under it were broke so it moved a lot.... I can't base an opinion off one ride alone and I don't mind buckets (my 71 beetle has them) but I think I will stick with my bench.
More leg room...? Well I am 6-6 and I can't tell any difference in the leg room from one of my truck's that has a bench vs my bronco's that have the high back bucket seats. If there is a difference it must be un-noticeable, atleast to me.
JMO, but there is really no comparison in the comfort and ride of a high back bucket vs bench. But hey, thats just what I like and prefer.
just a couple of pics of mine:

Well, each to their own. I am sure I'd enjoy those jade green ones since that's the OEM color of mine. My rear seat is that color and the front would be but the original cover is ripped up.
my 86 has a bench, my 85 buckets/console. The console is a great place for the "coffee" cup, and of course the console offers more storage for the usual road junk.
The 85 is used for short strips and outings kinda like our "Harley-with-a-top", and for such it is unbeatable.
For a longer trip, the comfort of the big-old-soft-cushy bench for me is better..but no place for that "coffee" cup.....oh well..I can sit Three in the front...and take the back seat out..put in a 6'-1" mattress and sleep oh, say "four" comfortably...hmm..
I like'm both..admittedly the buckets seem to fit the "2 goin' cruis'in situations better...unless she want to ride in the middle then..
I guess if I were gonna park'it and look at it, the buckets DO look more kool, but when I need to drive it more than 500 miles w/o a good stretch, , I would take the bench seat equipped vehicle..
