I need a vacuum gauge. Can anybody recommend a brand they have been happy with and would be most appropriate for our old trucks. I want a good one that will last.
I have used several over the years. They all work about the same. The most important thing is finding one that matches the look of your other gauges. Look over a Summit or Jegs catalogue for the different styles, sizes and faces.
I am looking for the diagnostic tool. Now that the truck is running, albeit poorly, I realize I don't have any diagnostic type tools. With Father's Day and birthday right around the corner, this is as good a time as any to drop some hints. Let's add compression tester and timing light to the list. I don't want to spend more than I need to but I am also at the point where I'd rather buy it once and avoid buyer's remorse. Y'all's opinion means more to me than the advertising budget of xyz tool company or the limited assortment at the local parts house. Thanks for the help.
Buy a compression gauge that has a hose that screws into the spark plug hole, not the inexpensive type that you push on a rubber cork to seal. A leakdown tester is more expensive but can tell you a lot more about your engine health. A handheld tach/dwell meter is also useful for diagnostics and tuneups as is a remote starter button.
