Thanks to Gary and Chris's help last November I managed to get a clutch assist spring (NOS Green Sales) for my 1980 F100. Now that spring has sprung it seems fitting to install this spring. I need advice on how to install it. How can I compress the spring in a way that it can be uncompressed when it's in place? Is there any special way to install it? I have good access and visibility as I did remove the dash pad and the instrument panel.
I'd be inclined to try ChannelLocks or some such. There is probably some sort of special tool made for the job, maybe the Rotunda C5AB/32000-010 Spring Compressor/Artichoke-Pit Remover, but you'll prolly never be able to find one (or use it ever again)....
In doing some research I've found a link to someone who used a unique method..basically wiring it compressed then cutting the wire once installed...
I'm sure it will be a job,
Thanks for that suggestion JohnSmith3524...sounds good! Compressing it first in a vice should work as long as the roller ends can be secured so it doesn't jump out and then wire it a few times.
