Stranded in the 31

I was out for a drive in my 31AA to get some more stuff for my roof when I heared a load bang thud !!!!
Pulled over and found this

A 3"hole/ gouge 2" deep in my radiator and all my antifreeze pumping out!
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have none at all!!!

Could have been a lot worse, like if you were adjusting the carb...

It's a good reminder that old fans need periodic replacement!

Wow, I've never seen a fan do that. I own a lot of 20s and 30s cars, some fan inspections might be in order.

It does look like a dusting of paint had masked some problems with that fan. Look at the other blades. I would SWAG it has had a failure coming for a while. Everyone closely inspect their brake lines for rust? Especially behind clamps? No, not AAs.
I had a friend, back in high school days. '49 Mercury had a vibration. He was leaning under the hood revving the engine when the blade let go. He was very lucky.

Sorry to hear this my friend. I've never seen anything like this. Wah causes a fan blase to break off like that?

In this case, look at the rust that was hidden by paint. And in 80 plus years and unknown miles, how many times has that fan maybe been "adjusted?"

That makes a lot of sense . Some one could of tryed to pull more air though the rad and twisted the blades to do so or it could be some thing the PO picked up at a swop meet painted it and throw it in there!
I was going about 30mph and bang she stated to run rough ( out of balinese)
I backed it into the garage last nite I need to finch my roof today but tonight I m going to remove the radiator and fan blade. I m going to post a video of the play in and out of the pump to see if you guys thinks to much

Wow, sorry to see that! That is a beautiful truck, even with a broken fan and a hole in the radiator.
