Previous owner did some....umm....interesting things with the wiring.
I have been unable to get either of the rear turn signals to work or the brake lights.
Taillights and marker lights both work
Front turn signals and hazards work
Replaced all bulbs
Replaced brake light switch
Checked and replaced fuses
Replaced turn signal switch
Took out wonky trailer wiring that PO did (see picture) and re-connected wires to harness as best I could according to wiring diagram from fordification.com
But still, same deal. Tail lights/markers work. No brake lights or turn signals.
Found this large wire (picture) with a black and a white branch that had been snipped. Don't know if you can tell from the picture, but these are heavy-gauge wire in a red sheath. I traced this all the way back to the engine compartment. The PO sliced off the white wire and then patched in a wire with a fusible link and attached it to the battery side of the starter solenoid!
Are these two big wires grounds? If so, where do they attach on the rear end and where do they attach in the engine compartment?
CRAZY STUFF! Why don't people do things the RIGHT way instead of the easy way?!?!
With that much hacking, there's not much value in anyone trying to troubleshoot what you've got against the factory wiring diagrams. All you can really do is start over.
The large wires don't look familiar. The factory would not have run heavy-gauge ground wires down the length of the truck because the frame itself is grounded so long as the appropriate ground straps are in place.

FMC, I think you are right. Just going to have to start over. Are there any good sources to buy wiring harnesses, etc? Thanks!
