Oops rim size

Picked up a used rim & tire. I figured it was a 16 x 8 and a 6.5 bolt pattern. Seems the original has a 4.75 inch hub opening and the one I bought has a 4.5 opening. Sure glad I researched sufficiently on FTE first...

Excursion & 1999/ F250/350: 8 lug wheels on a 170mm bolt circle.

8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle: 1948/52 F2; 1953/98 F250; 1967/98 F350; 1969/74 E300; 1975/2013 E250/350.

F250/350's went to metric wheels in 1999, but no Econoline has metric wheels.

Thx ND, these aren't for the EX, but for a dent side trailer. I think the running gear may be older than '73. Would hub size have changed from the 70's to the 80's on the rear axle of an F250? The new wheel is from a 88 F250.

Hub size changed in 1985 with Sterling 10.25, it's much wider and used different hubcaps, wheel covers than Dana 60/70. Post 2: That's not a Sterling 10.25.

The bed is from a 1973/76 Ranger XLT that's missing the side mouldings. Tailgate upper finish panel only installed on XLT's and 1978/79 Lariats.

8 leaf rear spring pack: 1966/67 F250 2WD

Does that axle still have an I.D. tag?

Located under one of the bolts that retains inspection cover to housing. Today, many are missing.

Also look to the left (drivers) side of housing, adjacent to inspection cover for a 2" x 1/2" plate that's bolted on.

Will have a 7 or 8 digit Dana ID number on it, similar to: 603010-1 or 603010-11.

Thx Bill and Steve, no obvious tags, but still scraping off dried oil/dirt. The bed holes don't line up with the frame, so an earlier chassis for sure. Not impressed with the shock abs. mounts.

The front drivers side has a nodule on the pumpkin. US Pat 2018188 in the center casting not helpful.

1973/79 F250 2WD, 1978/79 F250 4WD's have 37 1/2" rear frame rails. I dunno what 1980 and later is, but it's not any shorter than 37 1/2 inches.

Note: If these F250 4WD's are 1987 and later, the rear axle is a Sterling 10.25, not a Dana 60.
A tad under 34'' between frame rails.

What do you consider earlier?
33 1/2" width between the inner frame rails behind the cab: 1961/72 F100/350 / 1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys) / 1973/79 F350 Cab & Chassis & on the 140" wheelbase.

All other 1973/79 F100/350's: 37 1/2" width inner frame rails // F250: Dana 60 / F350: Dana 70.

Thx Bill. I'll keep scouring search to find a frame/shock/axle set up that looks similar in the '61-'72 forum. (You're right, might be later).

In the mean time she fits now. I'll use the split rim, crackly Uniroyal as a spare.

Here's a coupla pics. Flex-O-Matic (at right) optional.

16.5" x 6.75" split rim "outie" wheel from a 1968/79 F250 Camper Special, original bias ply tire: 8.75" x 16.5."

Outie: So called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section.

Thx again. Sure looks like that top pic with the flattened Top-down U bolts and outie rims for the cap. Wonder if someone put a 16'' tire on the 16.5'' split rims... will do some more investigating manana. In the meantime, gotta like some blue.

(That's not one of your X blocks Marv, was an old one i had hanging around...)

So you converted that rim from a hub-centric to a lug-centric, didja'? Last time I did that was also on a trailer rim.

Even so, use the X-blocks as you wish. There's more where they came from.

I don't remember any Sterlings having fill plugs in the rear covers, so I believe that's a Dana 60.
