Traded for a 2000 excursion which I love and already blew a spark plug. I had it towed to my mechanic and after taking a look said it had happened on one of the other plugs. I did some investigating and found during certain years of production this was a big problem. Will this be a reoccurring problem? Any info would be appreciated.
It is not a problem if they are properly installed. They only had 3 or 4 threads on the head so they are picky with torque specs. The late 2002-05 models had an extra 4 threads added to help with the problem.

All years of the modular engine (4.6, 5.4, and 6.8) had this problem up to and including some of the early model year 2003 vehicles.
For the 2003 model year, Ford increased the threads in the spark plug holes for the modular engines, but there were leftover heads from '02 MY runs that were used on the '03 MY vehicles.
Will this be a reoccurring problem?
Only if you don't do proper maintenance

This is a problem that was identified over 13 years ago. There is literally TONS of info on the internet. Tons.
Just do a Google search, or you can even search here in this very forum, or across all of FTE and you'll get WEEKS of reading material.
