I just upgraded my crusty stock tailgate to an 08 gate! I'm thrilled!!! I found a matching gate locally and sold my stocker the following day! But now comes the security question...
I did put a hose clamp around the slider, and it would certainly slow down a potential thief, but that's not enough to keep me from worrying about it walking away. I try to keep it locked, but that can be a PITA if I'm in-and-out of it frequently.
I'd like to be able to lock/unlock it with my fob.
I've seen the "pop-&-lock" out there and it's exactly what I want... but the $100 price tag seems a tad high to me. Are there any other products I should consider? Or should I just buy the P-&-L?
I have a power lock on my tailgate, put it on years ago. It is wired into the door lock wires so anytime the doors get locked so does the tailgate. I got it at Summit racing and it was no where near $100. Here is a link to one, and yes it will work on the '08. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hfm-tl8/overview/
If you do a search on Summit they also have some nice lock set-ups that beat the hell out of the hose clamp, which anybody can take off.
We could go to the junkyard and dissect some minivan or suv liftgate actuators. They tend to have shorter throws than door actuators. I have a feeling we could end up with one for free if ya catch my drift...
