vibration at 55mph +
I have a vibration that starts at 55 mph. As I accelerate, it gets worse. It is shaking my mirrors. I also notice it at a start too, but not as badly. It is vibrating my truck pretty bad. I am thinking it may be my carrier bearing. I have a 2 piece rear driveshaft. The u-joints seem tight. Any ideas?

I had a terrible noise, didn't exactly shake the mirrors but it was loud as hell and I could feel it in the floorboard right through my boots. Only happened at speed or when I started just for a moment. Turned out the front of the heat sheild on my cat had come loose, as more air got under there it got louder, bouncing in the wind. It was also noticeable at start up because the exhaust shakes a bit with a cold start until the idle dies down. I was imagining it was all kinds of things, lucked out that it was absolutely minor. Good luck!

Well, I found several problems with the truck. It turns out that the bolts holding the caliper on the left side of the truck managed to back themselves out, so nothing was holding it on, except the rim of the tire. Also, crawled under the truck and can move the driveshaft around in the carrier bearing. It is destroyed. I fixed the brakes, got all new hardware for the front. Tomorrow I will drop the rear driveshaft, and replace the universal joints, all three, and a new carrier bearing. I'll let you know if that fixes the vibration.
