help with oil return

I've been reading over this site very thoroughly ,I must say I'm impressed. I'm currently planning out a custom turbo fit for a '91 7.3 idi, with a '95 PSD, Garrett GTP 38. My only bump right now is finding the best place to mount the return. Any pointers or advice from previous builds would help, thanks

Are you saying that you're putting a '95 PSD motor in a '91 truck and you're gonna mount a GTP38 turbo on the '95 PSD motor?

I must have put it wrong, I'm putting a '95 model PSD, Garrett turbo on a '91 7.3 idi. The only hiccup so far is finding the best place to mount the oil return

There are much more knowledgeable people here than me but the only place I'm aware of for oil to drain on an IDI is where the CDR is mounted in the valley right behind the intake. I'm not that familiar with the pedestal on a '95 PSD but if it's like the pedestal on my '00 PSD and the oil drains through it, you would have to figure out how to fab a connection from the pedestal to the oil drain hole in the valley where the CDR will be removed from. Again, I'm sure someone will come along with alot better info than I have.

I appreciate your reply, and yes the oil flows and returns thru the pedestal. However there is plenty of metal to drill and tap the pedestal for lines. The only issue is how to plug the line in the cdr hole, or somewhere else. Thanks

I'm not familiar with the psd turbo, your using that pedestal? Or the idi factory turbo pedestal? U could plug the factory CDR holes and make a new hole in valley pan, but then you'd need a way to seal it. Unless your set on having a top mount turbo, I really like the convenient location of on the passenger side...oil can drain nicely into lift pump area (if your using electric)

First off if like to say that's a bad#$% truck you've built, 91! Now ok, yeah I had planned on using the pedestal, I've got plenty of room. The plan is to build a box, roughly 10x8x3 1/2 to mount the turbo w/pedestal on. Mount the box to the intake hole in manifold

The box will double as a mounting platform for the turbo, and a pressure box for the intake. There is enough metal in the pedestal to drill, and tap the inlet and outlet

Holes for the oil lines. The problem was finding the best place to mount the return line.

I really like the passenger side turbo mount you've got, with that holset. If you don't mind me asking, how did you route you're exhaust to the turbo?
