Help with Auto to Manual Conversion
Hey guys! I have a 1978 F250 4x4. It has an automatic transmission (C6 I think...), and a 400 (which I am currently rebuilding). I would love to swap out my automatic for a 4 or 5 speed manual transmission. What transmission should I look for, and is this a fairly simple job or am I going to need to fabricate parts and such to make it work? Any advice is appreciated.

The 400 has the same bellhousing pattern as the 460, so you could use a ZF5 trans from a '88-'97 460 motor. That has a hydraulic clutch, tho, so you would need to modify your firewall to accept the clutch master cylinder.

Thanks guys! Looking at PSquare's thread, I think I might go for a T19. Did a little research and it seems to be a pretty decent off road tranny. Also, I am fairly confident that I can do the swap looking at that thread.
