Quick advice needed--starter

Ok, I 've been working on the truck the past few weekends and its been going pretty good.

I jumped in it this morning and ran up to the store to grab some bagels and donuts. I went to start I didn't get anything out of her. It turns out the starter jammed on me. I pulled the starter and roll started it and got it back into the garage. This is a JY starter that I put in last weekend because the previous one was crapping out on me.

Is this a sign of another bad starter or did I just luck out and hit the ignition wrong and should chalk it up to bad luck?

I'm in a situation where this needs to be a daily driver starting tomorrow. The JY I got the starter from is open on Sundays but no one is there that can exchange it for me until tomorrow abut I wont be able to get there during business hrs until next Saturday.

Should I trust this starter and just be careful about turning the engine over? I did do kind of a double bump type of turn of the key because I wasn't really paying attention. If I should put this starter in again do you think I could trust at least until next weekend. I do carry tools and can pull it again and roll again if I have to but it's going to be at night and really wouldn't be in the mood.

Is there anything I can check on this starter to help prevent it jamming up again? Should I just go down to the Autozone or Pep Boys and get a re-manufactured one? Things are kind of tight right now and even the cheapie reman cost I could do without right now.

Govtmod,

It will be much easier for the good folks on this forum to provide you with valid input concerning your problem if you will provide appropriate information on your truck. What engine do you have? What transmission? 2wd or 4wd?

I bought this starter 8yrs ago and never looked back, high temp header heat doesn't effect it, you can run 20 degrees of initial and it won't even blink, great little unit, pricey but worth it.

Easy things first. Check/clean all connections (battery terminals, relay terminals, grounds). Also get the battery checked with load tester. If all the above is OK, time for a new or reman starter. Your local parts store probably has one with lifetime wrranty.

We need a sticky on "no start" issues, it's a very common query, and easily resolved in most cases....though I suppose most would just blindly ignore it and post a redundant thread anyway.

I figured out the no start part, I just needed some input regarding how critical it would be for me to find a new starter.

I put it back in and it seems to be working fine. I hope it will at least last the 2 weeks before I can get back to it.
