Hey guys, I'm rebuilding my front end and need to replace the draglink. Is there a difference in the draglinks used between the 48-52 F1/F2 and the F3 and up trucks? Just wondering if the ones for sale from Macs/Dennis Carpenters et al. will work in my F3. Thanks in advance.
Rock Auto has the same tie rod listed for all three models and since they have the same front axles and spindles I'd say they all shared the same front end parts. Number Dummy will show up soon and set us straight.
irondragon79 - I need the drag link (pitman arm to spindle). I still have one to take off my 48 parts truck but I'm doubting it will be in usable shape. I will try to get a good look this weekend and will let you know if I'll need the one you have.
oldmerc - I have a rebuild kit and that's what I was planning to do until I took it all apart and saw the steel has thinned and deformed around the ball holes so I don't see much point in rebuilding that one when I'll just have to change it down to road anyway, may as well do it right to begin with especially since I have it all apart right now anyway.
Sorry I misunderstood . Are you doing a complete rebuild on your steering box. I recommend it cause a little slop or wear here and here there really adds up . IMHO
I have a complete 48 F3 rolling chassis I am clearing off to subframe, steering on mine is effortless and seems to had been restored at one time. LMK if ya need anything. I will be checking condition of parts as they come off.

Yes, that was my weekend project (only got halfway done haha) swung by George Moirs and got a gasket kit, seals and bushings, grabbed new bearings and cups from BC Bearing. Overall it was solid and operating well and the worm gear and roller look to be almost new. Has anyone seen anywhere how much oil to put back into the box after rebuild?

.
Fill it to the filler hole with the box in the truck. Make certain the box is adjusted correctly. The instructions are on the forum a couple different places. Don't forget a bit of grease on the top shaft bearing.

Thanks! Hoping to get it all back together sometime this week.
