Rear end swap

I was hoping someone tell me if a Dana 60 rear end with 3.90 gearing from a 1957 F100 would swap easily into my truck. I have a 1965 F250, 352, Dana 60 with 4.10-1.

Would the change in gears help much with my highway speeds or should I wait to find a 3.73 or 3.54.

I've done some extensive reading of past threads but was specifically curious about this rear end I found for sale. Thank you!

What kind of speeds would you like to go? I think that 3:25 or 3:00 at minimum, or adapt an OD of some sort into it. Pricey but well worth it.

60 or above would be nice... without screaming down the 101!

Assuming you want to stay with the Dana 60 rear end, you'd be better off finding a 3.54 set of gears. There's not enough difference between 4.10s and 3.89s to be worth spending money to make the change. Oddly enough, I ordered a brand new '71 Plymouth Road Runner 440 6 pack with a Dana 4.10 rear end (part of the Super Track Pak), back in the day, thinking I was gonna attach a Hone-O-Drive overdrive unit to it - and after I got the car I found out it wouldn't work. So I swapped the 4.10s for 3.54s and was very happy with it. Good luck!

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll pass on the 3.90 at this point... I would probably like to stick with the Dana 60, not change over to a 9 inch.

Is the 3.54 gearing only available on the 9 inch? And does anyone know which trucks to look for at the pick a part that would possibly have a 3.73 Dana 60?

No I believe summit sells a 3.54 set for the dana 60. I run 3.50 in my 9" and it revs about 3000rpm at 65mph.

No F100 came with a Dana 60, F250's only. F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle. F250's have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle.

3.54 ratio introduced in 1966 F250 Dana 60.

Other Dana 60 ratios 1953/79: 3.73; 4.10; 4.56; 4.88 / 1980: 3.00 & 3.23 introduced.

Lotsa luck finding 3.54 or 1980 and later 3.00 or 3.23. Everyone one wants one, few find them.
