hi,
I have a 57 F250 with a Dana 60 rear end that has 4.56 gears. since I am hoping to have it as a daily driver I wish to change the rear end gears. Just wonder what can I all use for rings and pinions?
It's actually more work (and about the same money) to swap the dana gears out as it is to swap in a whole 9-inch rear end (which, I think just bolts up).
The only problem for that in my case at least is that I like the 8 bolt hubs. And a bit eerie about sliding under truck jacks never trusted never will.
The 9" is good for F100's, real trucks need something stronger.
I picked up a Dana 60 with LSD (posi) from a 74 Dodge 1T pickup for my F3 project, it has 4.10's. My 83 Dodge 1T B350 van has 3.54's. The Dodge 15 passenger vans (a mile long and glass all around) seem to be mostly 3.54's from the ones Ive looked at.

286,
Was the Dana 60 you picked up out of the Dodge a bolt in? Was the width correct?

Hhow about an AOD tranny to get the engine speed down at higher traveling speeds. Proably cheaper and easier than changing out the ring and pinion in your Dana.

Thats what I did for my 54, which I would imagine has the Dana 60 just as the other guys in here, except I have a 5 bolt axle, 4.11 gears or somewhere around there. I was wondering if anybody made a mini-spool for the Dana 60 in our trucks?
You can get gear ratios from a 56-79 dana 60. The main problem is you have 16 spline axles and around the late 60's they went to 30 spline axles. If you get a ring and pinion from a later axle with 30 spline axles you can put your old spider gears in the new case or steal the axles from a 68-72 Dana 60.

Its a bolt in on a 62 F250 frame which is where the F3 body will be going. Im building a vintage wrecker and wanted easy to find 8 lug wheels, Dodge and Ford use the same wheel pattern. The F3 frame is narrower but it shouldnt be a problem for a flatbed or similar body. The Dana was also used in the 3/4 T Dodge of that era, same width.
