6.7l lower fuel filter housing broke

I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem I had. This past week my wife and I took a short trip and returned on a gravel road. I went to start my truck the next morning and there was a puddle of diesel fuel on the driveway. When I looked under it, I noticed that the tip of the fuel filter housing is gone and is leaking slowly from there. I called the dealer and they would not fix it on warranty, the truck has 20k on it. The service man said he would not turn this into ford. I've had the similar problems with this particular dealer. It's obvious that a protective cover is needed for this. I kept the part and am thinking of sending it to ford. Has anyone else had this problem?

I see that the new part has a stick on foam cushion on it, I think I'll make an aluminum shield for it.

I have a spare DFCM bowl sitting behind my back seat. It's only a $30 part.

Cumminscowboy had the same thing:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...bfe-again.html

There have been a bunch of people break them while taking them off to change the filters.

There is a thread on here where someone made a guard for the DFCM but I can't seem to find it.....

I broke one on my truck changing the fuel filter one day, ooooppps. I was using the hex head area on the filter cover. Needless to say now I use a strap wrench when I change filters. That plastic does not take much to break it.

I use both a socket and strap wrench to attempt to even the pressure between the two areas.
It's working so far with three filter changes.

Where did you get it for $30? Ford parts dept. locally quoted me $98 for the replacement.

2011-13 6.7 fuel filter shield

I apparently broke my fuel drain downspout while driving on a gravel road even with mud flaps. It did not cause a leak, but it makes quite a mess when trying to drain fuel. I bought a new bottom half for 26 dollars as well.

I shouldn't have that problem again.

If you want to see the shield I made email ksdovehunter@gmail.com

Carry a spare filter housing. Carry spare exhaust sensors. Why do we have to do this? Ford puts a plastic part in the line of fire from the tires. Then they want to deny warranty. I guess just like the fuel pumps that require fuel that you can not buy in the USA, Ford does not want to stand behind its sub standard engineering. These are supposed to be off road vehicles. The most vulnerable point on the truck doesn't even get a shield on the FX4. These things aren't even the masters of a gravel road. I have a gravel driveway and am on gravel roads miles a day. I guess there must be a lot of these failures for there to be a fix. And what a fix, the best fix imaginable for 25 cents. This was foreseeable. Why couldn't they at least do this from the factory. I didn't know they officially changed their motto to "Found On Road Dead" Flame on.
