Just picked up a 08 F450 and looking to get better mileage out of it. The DPF/CAT delete looks like a definite. EGR delete or block off also. Kind of up in the air on which programmer to go with. I am looking for more MPG than more power. A lot of help would be grateful. H&S looks good but realy expensive. the Gear Box Z Tachyon Plus Programmer TACHYONPLUS64pice is much better but does not give visual read outs. Does anyone have any experience or other options. Thanks
No matter what you do you will not see noticeable increases unless you go the route of the DPF/DOC delete. This can only be achieved with a tuner so the two pretty much go hand in hand. I have the H&S Mini maxx which I immediately ordered the day that the EPA announced it was targeting H&S. That unit is now worth about double what I paid so I was lucky. The unit has been flawless since I bought it and has been loaded and unloaded on the truck twice (pre & Post DPF). One of its big advantages is that it automatically shuts of the EGR. Since I am not sure of the future of exhaust testing here, I am keeping the EGR coolers on for now. The other big advantage is 4 gauges monitoring and maybe a dozen inputs to choose from.
I am up on mileage by about 10% I was hoping for 15% but not getting it. I have yet to do an extended trip towing to see how much it goes up (or doesn't). Unless you want to race, tow sleds or just roil coal, this is the best way I know how to get better MPG, and more importantly, an engine that will last beyond 150k
Thanks for the imput. Trying to decide between the H&S and the Spartan.
I'm finding the H&S MiniMax Street Tuners are about $1300. For the miles I drive, I could probably pay for it within a year. Then, today I considered the regens that I drive out until fully complete at 22 miles every 250 miles at 10mpg ( while regenerating) at $4.00 a gallon, and see Zi could pay for it sooner. I am seriously considering the full monte with intake and exhaust, but it sure costs some cash. My dad nets 19mpg with his 6.7 continually with rural driving. I look at that and consider not foiling Big Brother and putting that delete lettuce toward a new truck. Since I need new tires and shocks soon, it adds up fast.
Looking at a kit from Rudy's that has the Spartan , 4" DPF/CAT delet, EGR delete and intake. Is it worth it to get the down tube also and if so do you get any turbo whine in the cab?

If you're not racing, don't bother with the aftermarket intake, IMHO.
Yes I was talking about the down pipe. So the stock air filter flows well enough? I am not racing it. Main duty will be a tow vehicle for my 5er. Just trying to get better MPG and longevity out of it.

The stock air intake flows well, and IMHO is better quality than aftermarket.
My aftermarket air intake the intake boot just ripped in half, and the turbo was sucking unfiltered air. Good think I noticed quickly. They sent a replacement, but guess what, I've been running the stock system, and it's just fine.
