I was just reading that you can reseal the intake plenums. I never even thought about this for preventive. I will be rebuilding the Turbo and changing the exhaust housing. I want to do this since I will be in there. Is there a write up on this? What kind of sealant do we need to use and torque specs?
Soooo.... Does that look like fun? I would not fix the old (and I didn't), billet plenums have O-ring seals, so installation was easy and fast - and they won't likely fail. Removing the old ones? Not so easy and not so fast (*$#!&%! bolt on the passenger-side plenum in the front).
OK OK I get it if not leaking dont mess with them. Got it! LOL
Bit of an oversell? When I did my injectors, I asked if I should replace cups and the reaction was the same as what you experienced here. When I got in there, I found a bad cup... so I got a piece of that as well.
Hey Tugly my Plenums do have a leak on both sides! I do not get it. I have another thread going labeled Ordered another yellow tape box. With some other issues and 1.0 housing. I other words the truck will be down for a while.
How severe is this leak? I got everything apart to remove the Plenums but I dont see how to get the bolt on the passenger side by the HPOP out. There is barely enough room to get a open end wrench in there.
Ah... you noticed that one. One benefit to the billet plenums is you don't need to put that cursed bolt back in after it's out. I used a Dremel Multi-Max [LINK] to get the bolt out, then nothing went back in that hole.
You don't need to remove the bolt to get the factory plenums out and in, just loosen it. Good luck with the sealant when reinstalling.
Sounds bad enough to fix IMO. You probably won't notice a difference in power after its fixed, but you should see lower EGTs and slightly better mileage. May not even be enough to tell a difference, but Atleast it will be right and won't continue to get worse.
