I check the meter to give me an idea of my MPG, but I never rely on it. It seems to be off a couple of MPG. When I drive the Truck camper around, I can tell if I have a bad head wind or not cause the MPG really takes a hit.
It might be just an impression, but it seems that when I drive on a highway with trees on either side, like in Maine or going down to Florida, my MPG is better, less wind I guess.
On the way home from picking up my 03 Excursion Ltd (4x4) I saw an avg of 23 mpg. For a short while on level ground, CC, 67 mph and temps in the high 50"sF. It went down as I sped up and went through hills. I bought this from recommendations that it is pretty efficient and so far it hasn't disappointed besting all my other TV's that were gassers.
I was away all day today and I just got a chance to read all the replies on my thread. With everything that was said , I think I need to clarify some points. I was refering to average mpg's not current mpg's. I understand all the factors that go into what affects your fuel milage. In my particular instance I was refering to my morning commute. Door to door I am seeing 22- 23 mpg and I was questioning the accuracy of this. Since I don't see these kind of numbers after my ride home , I am not quite sure how to hand calculate this to verify these numbers for this particular leg of my regular driving. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else was seeing these numbers on any trips and how accurate the SGII is with AMPG.
If I take my Excursion to work, the morning drive start at 6:15 AM ended at ~7:00 AM; smooth drive not much slowing down, minimal stop by traffic lights, 65 mph, I got about 20-21 mpg. Same drive back in the evening ~5:00 PM got stop by every traffice lights I breeze by in the morning, happen evry time, with every freeway interchange had to slow down to almost dead stop, and no way I can keep the speed constant, I got 14.5 mpg. All this with my Scanguage II dial in with speed match a portable GPS. Filled up recorded by SG II more than 5 times...
20-21 mpg in the morning
14.5 mpg in the afternoon just a reverse direction. You can say moring I drive down hill and afternoon up hill back home. Not likely.
I use an app for my iPhone called "Road Trip" There are two versions Free and Pay.
I had the free one and liked it so I paid and now it also will do reminders on things
like maintenance. I think it's handy. What I would like to do is export the data to
something like excel just to see what I can get out of the data.
One thing is I don't like to use the SGII for averaging of the MPG just like I won't use the
Lie-O-meter. I do hand calculations for MPG and Road Trip will give you cost per mile.
I see more like 4.5 hours, maybe it's been a while. I know I need a stop about every 4 hours if i bring a case of pepsi.
If you hit the reset button while cruising on the highway, let it settle down to a stable number, subtract 7 for the real world.
If you hit the reset button from a dead stop and go through traffic, let it stabilize, add 4.
That is the most useless tool added to that truck. Obviously these numbers are fictitious but so is the readout on that fuel calculator.
Keeping a steady start from stop and a steady pedal @ 65 or posted speed limit yields me the best mpg. maybe I get 20 mpg, my wallet says I get less.
