Just a heads up for everyone. Based on a post by saintthomas and the fact that I get some slight pinging with my 3.0 I decided to look at the hoses going to the DPFE sensor. I found one of the hose cracked were it connected to the DPFE and both of them full of corrosion at the ends. I'm not sure how much the flow was restricted but it couldn't have been a good thing. I only get the pinging in the middle of the summer with the AC on so I don't know if this was causing it but the truck didn't ping when it was new.
hey guys...i need some advice. My truck recently had the check engine light come on and the problem turned out to be a malfunctioning DPFE sensor. Well i was told by a mechanic that the egr system wasnt his "area" and to bring it to ford and get them to take care of it, which i did...FOR $200 bucks! and today i was reading on the site and saw that it is easy to install yourself and cost no more than $75. i was ticked off pretty good when i saw that. As i kept reading i then found a few post that said that ford has a program to replace these sensors since they are often faulty. Do yall know anything about this program or if the sensor should have been replaced free of charge? thanks...
BTW...my truck isnt even an oil change over my warranty miles(36,000) and now something goes wrong....go figure
I heard about Ford offering something called a Field Service Action (a kind of recall) which supposedly extends the warranty an additional 2 years/24,000 mile with regard to the DPFE. I am not sure whether you have to be the original owner or not for this to apply.
Try asking your dealer, or another dealer, about it, and let us know what they say!
Hey Rock, I called a different dealer just to see what they would say and finally got a somewhat strait answer. They say that only vehicles built at certain plants are capable of receiving the recall, and the plant that my truck was built at isnt one of the plants on the list. I guess there were problems with build quality of the DPFE at some plants...who knows...all i know is that im out $200 for something i couldve done myself for $50...gotta love dealerships!
Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear about the hit you took on the DPFE. We've all taken a beating like that from the dealer at some point so we feel your pain.
However, I'm sure hanging around FTE is going to save you plenty of $$ in the long run, so I wouldn't dwell on it.
