If this motor fits with a front sump oil pan, then I assume it is lifted?
It is true you can put a front sump pan on a 4wd, but it is very close to the front axle. After a good bump or ditch crossing it will hold less oil.
With a lift the front sump may clear just fine, but it's still just wrong.
A few months ago there was a video link on here for a guy changing the fuel pump. Pretty good video but he had a front sump in a non-lifted 4wd. The oil pan had that axle shaped cave in on the bottom of the pan.
Listen to number dummy any pre78 block will work. Only worry about the nickel if you planning 800 hp. IMO
Good luck.
I think I'm heading to IL to pick up the $500 machined block to put my scat cast steel crank and rotating assembly in. Hee-hee.
no its basically stock 78 f250 drivetrain..its not that close either...over time if i need to i will invest in a new pan...but right now i just want the truck on the road..its been sitting for to long and i need a truck to drive! haha
Any 460 will work. The one I'm building came out of a 78 van. With a little machine work, any 460 will run well and have plenty of power/torque. Paid $300 for mine. Yes, certain ones from certain years have certain heads, but its going into a f250, not a drag car. Any 460 you find will work for what you want.
Wait till you go off roading for real in it and see what the front axle pumpkin does to that front sump pan, you will then change your mind on needing a rear sump.
like i said before. i just want the truck on the road. its been sitting for over 2 months and its gonna be my daily truck not a toy that ill be going through trials and blasting through major mud holes..not gonna beat this truck to crap. i wanna keep for a while
...and as for the motor..i was looking for that year and series motor just to prevent taking it to the machine shop.
just putting in a cam, and putting a aluminum intake and a holley 780 will give the truck plenty of power
