My 2000 f250 y pipe does not seem to be necked down from the outside diameter appearance. I was looking into the SPD y pipe and noticed a disclaimer that ford had changed this exhaust component sometime in 2ooo. Could it be that I have the version not restricted to the 1.5" I know several of the in the know guy's have made the y pipe change. If my outside diameter is 2.5 I have a good stock right
I got some feedback from SPD on the Y pipe issue, My stock y pipe does not have the restriction that was introduced as a modification in 2000 to prevent flutter. SPD claims that their y is an improvement but I am not convinced. The whole argument is to prevent restriction, if my stock is not restricted why change it? Any THOUGHTS? Also would like some ideas on a new muffler, I have a new magnaflow cat on the way, looking for performance not increased decibel level in the exhaust.
The Y pipe was changed in late 2001 not 2000, some of the early trucks had the flutter and some didn't. I had a early production and late 2000 V10 and a late production had the flutter (the one I still have) and the early didn't. Ford changed my Y pipe to a late 2001 pipe (necked down) and the noise was gone with no lose of performance. If you don't have the flutter noise leave it alone you will be happier in the long run.
I guess I have never heard of flutter not sure what that sounds like, I have 180k on the truck and I am going though the exhaust change as a preventive measure. I don't see the need to change the y pipe now that I know there is not a restriction. I have read alot of posts with good results of the y pipe change if they have the restricted y. thanks for the input. Do you run a stock cat and muffler?
I finished installing the full Banks Headers, Pipes and Exhaust and a new CAT on my V10 last month. Power gains were impressive as well as MPG gains. No discernible sound difference at highway speed, do have a pleasant growl mainly from the headers at start up and on the go pedal on take off.

What year V-10 was this? Cost?
Banks are expensive, I've been looking at Hedman and Gibson. Not sure how comparable they are.
What MPG gains did you get, cause mine gets about 10-11 right now. Just crossed 160K

2000 V-10 2 value with 82k on the clock.
Full kit cost was $1,681 included headers, y-pipes, muffler, tailpipe and CAI.
I was sitting at about 7mpg in town and 10hwy before this. My manifold was leaking badly and my truck was a sick dog that couldn't get out of it's own way. After the install which took almost a month (due to extracting, drilling out all 20 studs) I am getting 11-12 around town and 14+ on the highway.
And she will definitely get out of her own way now. 1st time I drove it after the install I peeled out my rear tires and smiled all the way down the road.
I did not get the kit with the Otto Mind tuner from Banks - didn't read many good reviews on that tuner. Instead I got Mike 5 Star Tune and installed it. I am using the Economy tune only at this point.

Awesome!
Thankfully, 14 years in all the studs on my headers are intact! although a little rusty. (Texas doesnt get much rain)!
I have this tick that isn't exhaust leak or plugs, it seems to be causing power loss. But I'm at a loss to what it is.
If your running new headers why not, if you do let me know the difference from the spd and the stock when you cut it out. You don't have the restricted y but SPD claims their's is an improvement. I looked at a similar setup with magnaflow but decided on just the components, cat and muffler, 3" pipe is 3"pipe , not doing the headers as this is my daily work truck and don't have the time.

It ticking all the time or just cold/warm under throttle?
