Don't understand egr cooler problems

I have a 2003 f350 that started using some coolant so I pulled the egr and guess what it's wet what I don't understand is that I have a scan gauge 2 and the deltas are at 11 degrees and never higher so I was wondering what made the egr crack Also I want to put a new oil cooler why I was in there but since the egr cooler is cracked can I still flush the coolant system real good before I do the egr and oil cooler

I dont think id flush it with a cracked egr cooler. With deltas at 11* i think youd be safe to change both, then flush. Also add a coolant filter.

I would do a static flush: (engine off)

Dump the coolant
Refill with distilled, dump it
Repeat about 4 times
Dump it and swap parts

Top off with ELC and drive it like ya stole it.

Could have bad ECT or EOT Temp sensors giving False reeadings

Check ECT and EOT after 12 Hour cold soak they need to be within 1-2 degrees of one another

Other Possibilities are Manufacture Defect in EGR Cooler MY Vote Goes to this Because you have an 03 and round egr cooler those are just about Bullet proof anyways

I have an 03 with round egr cooler just like you and before I found FTE I didnt know about gauges or how to test the oil cooler. But it wouldnt surprise me if I had a Restricted Oil Cooler LONG Before I got a gauge and ran the test to find out.

I do Know for a Fact I ran with a 25*-30* Spread for around 4-6months before I changed the Oil Cooler and the EGR Cooer Never gave out!!! Id Like to see One of the Square EGR Coolers Hold up to that

My square cooler tanked with deltas of 7-9. Didnt bother with the oil cooler since my deltas were good. I know for a fact the 05+ coolers cant handle the high deltas but have also heard that the radiator inside can work loose or leak without the oil cooler plugging although that way has a small failure rate.
