My reg cab has a plastic front tank and I would really like to find another one for the crew cab. I have searched a few places online but they don't list plastic or metal.
Nope, turned to other priorities and kinda gave up for the moment. I did find a few cab and chassis trucks in the JY that had a plastic tank in the rear but the frames are 3" narrower.....I think I am gunna pull one of the tanks and see just how hard it will be to stuff in mine.
Ahhh no problem.
I cant keep all the tanks stuff straight. i remember hearing the RC had 22 front 18 rear, but checked the manual and its 19/18.
IDK, but sorry i couldnt help.
If you know for sure what the differences are id love to finally have it in one spot to reference. lol
It's weird that this topic came up, because I was helping a friend out on the farm the other day, and we were working on a tractor (It was a Ford, by the way ). Anyway, I was lending a hand to the farm's mechanic, who was installing the starter, and he was removing the fuel filters to give him a little bit more access room. To get to the point, when he pulled the fuel bowl, it was nearly entirely full of water.
The mechanic said that this was typical on that tractor and others like it because they are equipped with plastic fuel tanks that form condensation, which contaminates the fuel. I'm not an expert on this topic, but that's what he said. I'm wondering if using plastic fuel tanks would make a fuel system more prone to condensation contamination than steel tanks. I don't know if it would actually make any measurable distance.
On the other hand, my father's antique *****hutt tractor has a steel tank, which has rusted. The rust constantly contaminates the fuel system and dirties up the carburetor, which causes it to stall. That's a VERY annoying issue, and he strapped a little plastic lawnmower gas tank to it to take the rusty tank out of the equation.
Based on that experience, if I had to choose between a steel or plastic fuel tank, I would take plastic every time.
Sorry about the wordy post, I've been up for a while, trying to get my sleep cycle ready for 3rd shift. I'm a little loopy.
