Ive know this has been talked about to death because Ive read through most of them. My passenger front tire has a little up and down movement so ball joints are going to need to be done.
Questions
1. What are you running as far as brands?
2. How many miles are you at with them?
3. Rough price and where they were obtained from?
Some of the other post are older, so looking for some more up to date data from the guys using something other than from the Ford house. I figured if the passenger is going, I might as well do both sides im assuming.

Thanks for any input on this topic.
I saw a lot of recommendations for Moogs, so I bought mine from Amazon but I only have a few thousand miles on them.
you need a balljoint press, most autoparts stores will rent or loan one.the ball joints was the easiest part, the axle shaft ujoints if replaced & pressing the seals was more time consuming.follow tightening specs. by the instructions its possible to damage ball joints not doing so.
theres some good write ups on this job I think guzzles was one of them,if your running vacume operated hubs, the seals & orings are important to replace.
I have put XRF ball joints in two different trucks, because i read that they are the best on the market besides dynatrac. Around $160 from thetireclub.com
One other question. Only one side is bad, no play at all on the drivers side so im thinking those may havebeen changed before. Is there anything wrong with just doing one side, or should both be done?
i prefer MOOG ball joints have been using them for years, in my SD im at 100,00 miles and 6 years on a set ( all 4) i don't remember what i paid for them, i got them from shucks now O'rieley
as for only doing one side i don't see a problem with that, just the upper and lower on the side you do since your in their.
i have a harbor freight ball joint press it was around $40 works great
Just ordered the XRF since they come in an entire set. Guess im doing both sides. Now is there anything else when I do this I should replace? I have no other problems with the truck so im thinking I should be fine.
you will have to get it apart to know for sure what you need.looks like you can get by with less parts, with the manual locking hubs, look over wheel bearings, axle shaft ujoints & needle bearings, steering parts, brake parts, thats all I can think of right now.
Axle and dust seals, axle yellow o ring and hub o ring/snap ring
Where would I get these at? Looked up Oreilys and nothing shows for dust seals, axles seals show a few different ones. Dont know anything about doing this, so what parts are needed are a mystery to me.
