I'm having a problem with my 2010 F150 4x4. I'm a mail carrier and when I'm stopped at mail boxes my truck fluttlers and and acts like it's not getting gas or not getting fire. If I give it gas it goes on. It may do this 1 time a day or 100 times a day. My check engine light has come on and then after awhile it will go off. The Ford dealership thinks it is an oil pressure problem but the oil pressure gauge doesn't drop when this happens. Has anyone dealt with this type problem. I'm running out of options and my extended warrenty is about gone. Can't afford a new truck and besides I love my truck.
A little more history on the truck might be helpful. What engine do you have? Any previous nagging mechanical problems? Has the truck been in an accident? Any additional electrical things been added like an alarm or remote start?
I have a 4.6, no accidents, no electrical problems, and has 96,000 miles on it. It had a vlave problem and the dealership fixed it. After getting it fixed is when it developed this other problem. The check engine light wouldn't come on at first now it has came on but before I could get it back to dealership it went off. I took it to them anyway and a mechanic rode with me as we tried to get it to do the problem it finally did but light still wasn't on. He sent me home. Told me to change the oil as it was getting close to change it ayway. My husband changed the oil.....and looked to see if there was any metal or anything in the old oil. He didn't find anything. The light is back on so I'm calling the dealership again tomorrow. They also said it could be the catalatic converter. Since the light was on my son has a handheld OBD2 and hooked it up. It said it had a problem with the cam shaft position sensor or random misfire. I think the misfire was because this other thing had came loose. My husband had changed the air filter and had to unhook something and it did get hooked back completely.

You know, since your husband changed the air filter, I wonder if he failed to fully plug-in the mass-airflow sensor that's on the tube coming from the air filter box. It is pretty standard to unplug it so you can get the top half of the box out of the way. Double check that wiring, see if there's any corrosion, maybe even slap some dielectric grease on there to give it more protection and make sure it's plugged back in. Without the MAF sensor, your truck could be defaulting to a pre-defined fuel map versus working off of current environmental conditions. So give that a shot first.

That was part of the problem but not what is causing all the problem. That we caught when he ran the codes. When they had my truck before the were to have fixed that problem. Check engine light is still on. It was doing this before he changed the air filter.
Here's a few things I'd consider checking or doing. Have your son run codes with the OBD2 tester one more time, then clear the system and see what comes back. Let us know what codes are currently being thrown, and what codes are recurring.
Also, give a good check for vacuum leaks. In particular, the earlier 4.6s had the brake booster vacuum hose run under the intake, and it was prone to leaks. Not sure if the later 4.6s did the same, but something to eliminate as a cause. Give that a good going over. Also check your fuel pressure.
At 96,000 miles you're coming up on some major service. If you haven't changed your fuel filter yet, go ahead and do that. Also run a good fuel system cleaner through the tank and lines. Clean the throttle body and throttle position sensor. These are all things you should do anyway, and will help rule out the fuel system as a source of the problem. If the fuel system is ruled out you can move on to ignition/coils as a source.
I know of the things you mentioned have been done. I will have my husband read this. I'm calling dealership again tomorrow. I will mention these things to them also. Thank you for the info and if you think of anything else please let me know.
Little update on my truck. It finally caused the check engine light to come on but wouldn't make the noise. It finally acted up while the Ford place had it. Theu jad been messing witj for a week when i went to pick it up and it finally did it for them. So I left there and they got it to make the noise while the adjuster for warrenty company was there. They had already done close to $5000 worth of work on truch and hadn't fixed it. They still could not determine what the problem was so they put a motor in it. It has 20,000 miles on it. Don't know what the problem was with the motor but the Ford dealership I buy from took very good care of me nad I'm very pleased with them. only problem now is sonce the day I picked it up my door locks no longer work. Taking it back to them this next week to see about fixing it. Thanks for all the input!
