I've searched all over and can't seem to find the answer. When I pull the tail light out of my 12 F150 there is a blue/wht wire and a black wire going to the back up light. I assume the blue wire is the positive and black is the ground. Is that correct? I also posted this in the F150 section. Thanks.
I'm pretty certain that's the way it is. If you have any doubt, pull the bulb out, put car in reverse by someone you trust, and take a multimetre and find which side of the socket has power, then look at the wire feeding that side of the plug.
Most times, black is your ground, but, I've seen white, and brown, and even orange.
And there ya have it!! What type of backup lights did you install? I did some on my little Ranger, but am not overly thrilled with them, and am open to suggestions. I'm heading downstate in a bit to see my wife, and plan on stopping at "Herby Fright", ah, Harbor Freight, and see what they might have for cheap.
Be careful. The factory switch can only handle so much load.
I just got my VLEDS LED plate frame and wired it to the wires supplying my reverse light on the driver's side. I have a strange problem...
LED and reverse lights work fine when truck is not running (key in accessory mode and vehicle in reverse)
When the truck is running, when I put it in reverse, it seems as though a circuit "trips" and both the LED frame AND both reverse lights go out. If I turn truck off and back on and disconnect LED frame, both reverse lights work again.
It is a good connection as I cut the wires and used actual wire nuts. Would you happen to have any suggestions? It is a 2013 F150.
How many wires did you splice into and run to the new frame? 2? I wonder what would happen if you took one of the frame wires off(the one you think is negative) and touched it to a good ground, and left the other one hooked up. The only think I can think of, is if you did splice into a wire for the ground, you hooked into something else that is not really a ground.

I know this is an older post but I had the exact same thing happen to me. Spliced LEDs into the reverse wire all lights went out. I pulled the factory bulbs out and the LEDs worked when i was in reverse. They worked for about a month and all of the sudden they stopped working and I have no power to any reverse wires. Any thoughts?
