Air Conditioning System Cooling when OFF

I have a 92 F150, 302 cubic inch engine. After I have been driving the truck around and pop the hood I see water condensing on the air conditioning lines on the fire wall and on the black pressure tank (not sure what this part does except it's part of the air conditioning system. It could be where the expansion valve is, I don't know for sure.) It definitely feels cooler to the touch hence the condensation.

I have the air conditioning off, but the serpentine belt turns the air conditioning system anyway. The air condition system still works when I turn it on. So is this normal?

Regards,
Larry

No it should only be on with the defrost or A/C on. You must have a switch not shutting the A/C off.

The air condition is off, but the window defrost was on. Doesn't the window get defrosted by the heat of the engine and not the air conditioning?

Larry

No, the A/C runs in defrost mode to remove the moisture from the air,, this makes the process much faster than heat alone.

is it just turning the ac pulley or is the clutch engaged and turning the compressor too?

Turning Pully or Turning Compressor

I'm not sure. How would I check if the compressor clutch was engaged? I have to look into this.

Sorry for the delay. I work nights so I sleep during the day most of the time.

Larry

I didn't know that.

So, are you saying this is normal to have the condensation on the AC system when you have the defroster on?

I will have to see if I put the heater dial to off and AC on off too to see if I get condensation.

Larry

Yes, when in defrost mode the A/C compressor runs the same as it does when in regular A/C mode..

The A/C compressor runs in defrost, Norm A/C (cool), and Max A/C modes, the compressor should not run in heat, off, or vent mode.
