Its just something simple. I don't know how many times I have forgotten to pick up some ABS or have something to make a adapter out of when I'm installing on-site. There's always a dollar store, walmart, kmart or anything around that sells these.
Just a question. Why not upgrade to the same size speakers?
Not all companies offer a 6x8 component speaker or also some people will argue that a 6-1/2" is better than a 6x8 due to circular cone, cone surface and whatever. I just think it's silly. I've personally listened to two identical trucks with identical radios that we had to put 6-1/2s in one and 6x8s in the other due to inventory. Three of us listened to them and non could tell difference. Infinity does happen to offer a 6x8 component but on this particular vehicle none of my distributors had them in stock at the time.
Do you have a UPC number for them? Ive seen people use cutting boards before but the only ones I could find were $9 each.. I built my adapters from birch wood but would like to try the cutting boards.
The cutting boards are nice. I will use them when I change the speakers in my F250. I will have 2 tweeters in the stock opening & a custom pod for my 6.5s. They are too deep to go in the door
they don't seem to have them on their website but they are there. I just bought a couple of them here recently. I even bought a larger one at the dollar store because I needed to make a spacer for a 10 inch woofer because it was a little too big for the box. it was eight bucks but I was working on site and I need something fast
Those types of cutting boards should be available almost anywhere affordable home kitchen stuff is sold. Amazon comes to mind--a good place to check as a beginning if looking mostly online; eBay too.
If there's a plastic distributor near you see if they sell cut off pieces of Lexan, Plexiglas or anything else similar by the pound. Such stuff can be worked with normal woodworking tools.
I think the biggest advantage with this sort of material is its inert, not subject to any ill effect of the conditions it will see as a speaker adapter.
My local sound shop uses MDF. It's not one of my favorite materials to work with because of the toxicity of the dust and that it gets really unhappy in the event you have a water leak.
The cutting board material is a great idea and you can pick them up cheap, usually at a dollar store or Walmart.
