You're gonna have to go into business making custom enclosures for autos........can I be the first to commission one for an F150??? Looks awesome brother.
If I thought I could make coin doing so, you know I would!!!
I know if I did more, they'd get easier and quicker to build but not sure I'd want to build one to some one else's specs. There are certain things I am willing to "live with" and some things that have to be perfect!!
Wait...have another AR you'd like to barter with??? Maybe we could build you one of these plus that sub enclosure!!! haha!!

I have never worked with this icing before and was totally afraid to try it. However, it really is easy to work with - it just takes some patience. Well, except for when you need to get things done before it sets!! By far its greatest attribute; easy to sand!!!!
Here are the touch-up areas easily identifiable against the primer gray.
I resanded all of this and even wet-sanded with 320 and it was baby-butt smooth!! A few quick coats with the primer and it looks great. There is one little corner looking kinda rough, I'm hoping the carpet covers it when it wraps around the sidewall!!
While applying the final coats of primer, I got some new toys in the mail!!!
These are the switches I ordered from OTRATTW!! I originally ordered online but then ended up calling b/c I wanted to make a change!! These are green lower (independent - so on when I set that up, either switched or with lights or whatever) and the uppers are amber and come on with the switch. I wanted the upper to be red on the inverter and the compressor but they were completely out of those!!
In the future, I may purchase the switch bodies with the green/red just to show these to be the more high-demand items. They include a wiring diagram and I ordered the 6-switch bezel for ease of installation!
These will eventually be connected - mind you, I only have the bed lights and hook-up lights right now!! This is all pre-planned right now.
The timing was perfect, I am about ready for paint and I haven't yet cut the hole for the bezel!
First, let's lay out the lines.
I have wondered how I would cut this, once the time came. Of all the tools I have, a jigsaw is one I don't own - anymore.
So I thought maybe my RotoZip might do a good job cutting pretty straight and accurate. It worked well but since it's a metal-cutting wheel it did a GREAT job burning the wood!! Smelled great!!! Not!!
It took a couple hours between paint and carpeting but here is the result
I gotta be honest. My first impression; I hate it! I don't like the deep blue with the gray carpet. I really did like that light gray of the primer.
I also don't like how the "pinched in" area on the rails is really subdued now due to the carpeting. Originally, I was gonna carpet the middle and paint the side rails. I probably should have stuck with that. Ironic that I carpeted the hardest part!!
Oh, and two spots "lifted" with the blue tape!!! UGH!!! And I am OUT of blue paint!!!
The carpet stays since it's glued on. The blue stays - for now at least. I have too many other projects on my plate to step backward!!! If the blue doesn't grow on me, expect a color change. Just sucks to paint now that carpet is installed b/c I have no idea if tape will seal off the carpet enough from overspray.
This will go into the truck this way due to time. I won't even have the switches hooked-up!!
I will see how it looks once in the truck, maybe it will change my opinion!!
Let me ask this; if I chose to respray the blue to a gray;
1) What - if any - surface preparations is necessary on the blue paint
2) Do you feel the blue tape will seal off the carpet enough to respray another color?
Painting is easy, it's the prep that sucks and I am not 100% convinced I could tape off the carpet and have it seal out the overspray. However, if I can paint directly over the blue w/o surface prep and if I can get the tape to seal against the carpet, I might grab a can of paint tonight and repaint this back to flat gray (paint, though, not primer)!!
This is a little late, but you could have made the sides separate from the center and had mounting blocks attached to the sides recessed to the depth you wanted the center to sit at. Then you could have wrapped the carpet past the blocks, there for hiding the edges of the carpet that are seen. Then after the carpeting was finished, screw the painted portion to the recessed blocks from the inside. If you changed you mind on the color of the paint or the carpet, you could separate the two pieces and wouldn't have to worry about taping. You might be able to get some flexible edging and follow the contour of the sides, hiding the edge of the carpeting.
As for phone mounts, you can look at motorcycle mounts. They have lots of options and different mounts.

Looks great so far, also like the sub mount. I have mine mounted in the center behind the arm rest with a couple cup holders on top. The amp is mounted under the pass. seat.
Oh man, this thing was a pain to build - even w/o the added complexity of separating the pieces!! Wait...I like complex!!!
However, along those lines, I have considered putting carpet down the center. That would clean up the ends of the carpet really nice...
After all, my initial plan was to carpet this entire thing. However, I would want the absolute thinnest carpet I could get with backing.

If I thought I could successfully pull the carpet off and skim the sides with icing and paint, I might even try that. But I keep thinking how much sanding there would be - providing I could even lift the carpet!!!
This can be fixed, I just wanted to be done aleady!!
I have moved from HATE to dislike. The carpet "edges" aren't as apparent in person as they are in pics with the flash. I will clean up leftover tape and pick up some gray paint and spray this weekend.
This should put me in a much better mood!! If that doesn't do it, I will then carpet the center section as I planned. I have laid some pieces of carpet on there and it cleans things up really nice!!!
It's time to move on to some other projects that I put on the backburner to get this one moving.
At least the gray center will allow me to live with it for a bit!!!
Of course, I will post pics of the results!!
In the meantime, I cannot find light gray carpet at any of the local auto parts stores or big dept. stores. If anyone has a place online they would recommend let me know!!
