Those with DP Tuner

Just curious to see how often you drive in stock tune? I usually drive in 80 Econ mode and decided I'd try stock for a day. OMG what a pig it is in stock tune. What's the point?

I always start in stock tune then switch to 60e when warmed up. I do like 80e on the freeway, I get the best mpg there, most say 60e for mpg, but I've found 80e works best in my truck. I do have old tunes.

Like Chet I start in stock, both to warm up and since it is a bit more quiet. I don't want to wake the 'hood when I leave at O dark hundred. A few minutes later I hit 80E for the freeway on-ramp. Plus I need it for smog test time.

x2. stock for warmup and quiet exit/entry into the neighborhood. I'm told the tune adjusts for a cold engine and will not let you give it too much until warm, but I wanted it quieter anyway.

Once the temp needle starts moving, I go to 60e for most of my driving.

Stock is also good for troubleshooting, since tuners change diferent things in the tune, if you can switch to stock when hooked up to a scan tool it seasier to find whats out of wack.

Yep, that is correct. Jody makes his tunes to where you can not go all out on the truck until it is up to a safe temperature to do so. Most people are confused by this, but it is really for the safety of the engine.

Oh, and my personal favorite tune to drive in is 60E as well

I have not had my DP very long. Drove it for 200 miles in 60E and mileage was 15.7. Before tuner mileage was about 17.5 (town) I ran it 200 miles on Stock tune and got 16.3. BUT I like driving it in 60E better! Hopefully my mileage will pick up.

What's the reason for warming up in stock tune?

Many people get impression the elevated tunes can push the engine too hard... and it would, if Jody didn't dial the cold performance down already. The elevated tunes are louder the instant you apply throttle, so it can get obnoxious in residential neighborhoods, like when I drove home at the top of a steep hill. Running in stock in the burbs is just being curtious.

Just as the others said... I know that it will not give full power until it is warmed up but for my own peace of mind... I wait until the temp needle hits the bottom line of the NORMAL section then I switch up to 80E.

I am not sure exactly what Jody does to the tunes at idle. I know they are not extremely different then stock though. After all, you're not trying to make HP at idle

Shoot him an e-mail if you want to know the differences between his tunes and stock tunes at idle. I'm sure he could give you a better explanation than I ever could. I am no where near a tuning guru like he is

I have an hpop gauge, and at idle the icp is the same in any setting. I also let the oil temp get up to about 150* before using other than stock. With the 38r and Johns trans I sometimes forget to use other than stock. Its actually quite respectable. To me anyway.
