Hey I got a 77 2wd was a 302 c6 then some one put a 302 with aod in it, then I got it the tranny was toast so I was thinking putting a c4 behind my lightly done up 351 w it ll before crusing not pulling any advise? Thanks
When you say "lightly done up" im guessing you mean a mild intake, cam, and headders? As long as the engine is not anything to darastic Id say that engine/trans combo sound ok. The C4, just like the C6 is a three speed transmission without an overdrive top gear, and are farily stout but the C6 has it beat hands down. Addisionaly the C4 is Fords light/medium duty transmission. However Ive heard that if you put some money into them and build them up they are almost, if not, stronger then the faibled C6. And scence the C4 has lighter guts it spins up quicker as well. Hope it helps.

Ya the engines just that I d get it rebuilt before it goes in, I was told the the c4 you don t loose as much power verses the c6, I won t be pulling anything, how much shorter is the c4 then a aod, for drive shift application
True the C4 does not rob nearly as much power as the C6. As far as the length of the C4 goes, that Im not sure. I would think that it would be the same length as the AOD.
I have a 4 speed manual in my truck and put a C6 in there temporarily while the 4spd got repaired and the two transmissions were the same length. I didnt have any issues with drive shaft length at all. Granted I was dealing with a 4WD application, but I dont see why a 2WD application would be any different. The best I can say is climb underneath your truck and measure your AOD from bellhousing to tailshaft and then measure the C4 you want to put in and see if the measurements match. Its low tech but sometimes the old ways are the best ways.
