I have an open 3.08 rear. Want 3.55 and a limited slip. What spline are the factory axles and are these c clip style rears like the mustang? Just wondering what vehicles I can pull a diff out of and make work.
You will need a truck axle those in cars are only 27 spline, but 3.55 gears were extremely common in trucks so you should not have much trouble finding a complete axle to swap in.. which will save you the cost of re-alligning the gearset. If the one you get has unknown miles new axle bearings and seals are a good idea of course, and look for axle code H5 on the drivers door pillar to get the factory limited slip.

Thanks for the tip. Figured it would be easier to find a full rear than it would be to swap out the gears. Do I have to find one off a rwd truck or can I use one off a 4x4?
v8 ford explorer w/ 8.8 from 97-2000ish. will have the same carrier etc if you're just looking for cheap gears. then you can grab the ratech tool and install them on the driveway. look on the tag before you open them, it will specify posi and gear ratio

That's what I was thinking about doing. Wanted to go to a 3.55 limited slip as cheap as possible.
