Disadvantages -- much higher cloud point (important for those of you in the great white north), meaning it forms wax crystals at a much higher temperature than No. 2 or No. 1 petro diesel.
and this is the main reason it is hard to find in these northern climates where it gets cold in the winter.
disadvantages.... Maybe this is anecdotal, but all the guys I know that ran BioD ended up having major issues with their IP's, injectors, turbos, etc. Most of these guys took care of their engines too, so it was odd they had such trouble.
Most of the stations I've stopped at up here in Canada have a tag on the pump saying "may contain up to x percent of bio-diesel". I've seen tags for anywhere from 10 to 20 percent. A lot of stations also offer a "premium" diesel which they say contains no bio-diesel, among other things.

I'll never run BioD in my Jetta or van.
Huh. Not me; I ran a couple hundred gallons of my own homemade B100 (and by that, I mean 100% biodiesel) in my 86 6.9 turbo with no issues at all. The only symptoms I noticed were a better smelling exhaust and a quieter running engine.
