F350 electrical issues

2004 F350. This all started when a plug going to a black cylinder-looking thing to the right of the steering column came loose. I popped it back in, no biggie, but suddenly my gas, speedo, oil, temp gauges are dead, radio, power windows, and interior light are dead and no beeping when the key is in the ignition. Truck starts and runs fine, power mirrors and seats work.

I tried to manually switch on the interior light. It does not come on, but suddenly my windows and radio work. I turn the light switch to off and everything's dead again.

The next day the light starts flickering as the truck is making electric noises.

I figure it wouldn't hurt to disconnect the negatives and let the truck sit for the day like that. Both batteries are brand new, 12/12 and 1/13.

So just now I reconnected the negatives. First I connect the January battery. I start the truck to see what happens. Windows and radio suddenly work independently, gauges and interior light are still dead. Truck is beeping its head off with the key in the ig.

I turn the truck off and reconnect December battery. Start truck again and find I am back to square one: radio and windows dead unless I hit the light switch. Forget about the gauges. No beeping.

I figure there's some short somewhere? Any ideas?

can you post a pic of the black cylinder-looking thing?

Did you try unplugging it?

Plug is now stuck in there. Don't want to break it by forcing it.
Here is a photo. The sticker has a bar code and "non mem motor" on it.

Is that some sort of anti-theft device?

Ajustable Peddle motor? The non mem motor is a clue.
Some of the trucks that Ford has made have memory for the
seat and the peddle position. Was nice with my Explorer.
Someone else drive and move the seats and things. When I
unlocked the door with the 1st remote programmed and
the seats would return to the position I had programed into
the system at the "A" program mirrors too. I only wished my
truck did that.

Well I just went and looked at my 2006 and that is not it.
But it's got to be some type of driver motor for something.
Could of bent a pin with you plugged it back if? That could be
the reason behind the strange things.
It still could be for the peddles do to the year differences.
Do you have power peddles? Also where does that heavy black
cable go to?

This truck has adjustable power pedals. Another quirk due to this plug coming out: the brake is no longer needed to shift out of park unless the light switch is to off: then you need to hit the brake to shift. I drove it today. Everything is as it has been, but the ABS light is on (ABS was on before plug fell out).

When the plug was out, everything was dead. When I plugged it back in, the cab light switch turned into essentially a circuit breaker for certain things like the radio and windows but the gauges were still dead. My thermometer and compass has been dead since the plug came out. However, the power pedals and seats never went out.

I'll follow that black cable tomorrow and see where it goes and report back. Thanks!

Did you find where the end of that cable coming out goes?

Yes. It goes to the top of the accelerator pedal arm.

I drove it yesterday to be sure it wasn't a low battery issue. It wasn't. But there's this whirring as if there's a stuck motor. Sounded like it was somewhere under the radio antenna. Anyone have any suggestions what I should check?

I don't have a clue. What you need access to is a shop manual
and not the cheesy Haynes or Chiltons manuals. You could try this ALLDATA

I'm have a problem close to your issue. Truck will run and drive but no radio, lights and windows. This just started and it's only happen twice. But I'm thinking on my 92 F350 the key moved a lever on the colum that went to a switch box to turn everything on, it may going bad. Not sure if my 03 has the same thing but going to check. P.S the rod would be on top of the colum.
