Hello guys i got another hitch from a Tennessee salvage yard.
As you can see it is very rusty on the surface. What is the best way to remove/paint over this surface rust? What kind of paint or chemicals do i need? Thanks alot.
Excursion123, Ideally I would have it sandblasted then powder coated.
Plan "B" would be sanding or wire brushing the loose stuff then coating it with OSPHO or some other type of metal conditioner then paint with preferably something that is a 2 part catalyzed paint. Also I don't have any experience but maybe someone else on the board can help with is a product called POR-15 which from what I understand you can apply directly over rusted metal.
Another vote for blasting and powder coating, if I ever have mine off thats what I'll do to it. For now I just keep a coat of Rustoleum on it every year or so.
Way way cheaper to wire wheel and POR-15. It's a good product, and is very strong. I've never had good luck with powder coating. Just look at trailer wheels, pickup flat beds and stuff after a couple years
