I want to replace my plugs..looking for just stock ones. I get Motorcraft SP507 on rock auto and then on autozones site they say the 507 wont fit, I need SP515... what gives? I just want to replace with stock plugs for my 2004 F150 Lariat 4wd. One more question, which wires should I use??? Thanks
Paul
From what I have read the Motorcraft Sp515's are what you want, they are a heat range hotter and cut down on the carbon build up. I just bought my truck about a month ago and I've been Sea Foaming the **** out of it (in hopes, I know its not definate) that I reduce the risk of breaking a plug. Here is a link to the TSB on changing them:
There are no wires, it has a coil on plug design (has 8 indiviual coils that attach pretty much directly to the plug with a boot). Ford's part number for the COP are DG511. They're about $400 a set, so you may want to figure out if you have a bad one before you drop $500 (with the plugs) on a tune up.
If someone has a better price please let me know, lol. I have a miss and I was thinking about replacing these with MSD's.
I know some of you Ford guys are gonna freak but just my 2 cents. I replaced the original plugs on my 04 w/70k with Champion. Trying to remove the originals I broke all 8. When I tried to loosen them a partial turn to oil them as per the bulletin they broke. Removal tool worked good. Had one new plug not firing right off the get go, Rock Auto replaced it and I've had no problems at all since. Truck runs terrific it's been about 12k since the change. Now I don't have to go through that ever again. Just some food for thought.
Did the same and broke 7 of 8 at 95k miles. I believe the SP507 was replaced by the SP515, and I am certain that the SP515 is correct for our 5.4L engines. On the COP, I replaced them a little over a year ago with OEM Motorcraft units from Summit for around $320. Not priced recently.
I put the SP-507 in mine and no issues, then again I have not had to change plugs again yet. The SP-515 will fit, but I was told by my preferred Ford dealer that it was designed for the V10 engine and is a double platinum.
@TexasReb - Interesting. I would expect the SP507 to work fine since it was the orihginal plug type (I believe), but my Ford dealer said the SP515 was now the recommedned plug for whatever the reason. Guess not uniform information out there amongst dealer perts rooms. Have had mine in for 47k with no problems.
