Engine ideas?
1978 F150 4x4 w/ C6 with a 460 from a 1973 Lincoln. Last time it was run was a couple weeks ago. Had old gas in it at that time, which I drained and replaced.
Teeth from the starter pinion gear broke. Checked out teeth on the flexplate. Flexplate definitely isn't new but all the teeth seem okay. Replaced the starter, and it turns the engine over, but not as evenly as I think it should. All the electrical connections and grounds are good. I don't want to spend too much time cranking it until I'm sure that there aren't other mechanical issues that need attention.
I was told to check out the pushrods. I pulled them, and all are straight, but several have some scorching/burn residue on them.
Should these be replaced? What should I do to make sure they are properly seated and lubricated when they are replaced? What should I look for on the rocker?
What else should I check or replace while I'm there?
Engine oil level is good, it hasn't been run dry. I'm not opposed to removing the intake manifold to get at other things.
Thanks, this forum has been extremely helpful with this project.
