I was talking to a diesel mechanic and he had a lot of Ford diesels
and a few 6.0 in for service and we got to talking about cams.
He uses Delta camshaft also. Long story short. When he has the heads off
one that has over 250 miles or there about he always changes out the
roller lifters to avoid failed needle bearings.
I know the old rule with flat tappet lifters was the lifters never got
changed once they had beed run in on that cam. With a roller cam I
am not sure if the minor change in the roller track will do much. If that
would save an engine it may be worth the cost of a new set of lifters.
So what do you think about that over kill or a good idea?
Well it looks to be Tousley Ford Parts Depot
VALVE LIFTERS F350 6.0L DIESEL
MSRP Online Price
$46.73 $32.38
The question is how many sets to do the engine?
I would guess 8 X $32.38= $304 + shipping
Well if you have the heads off you there and all you have to do is pull them out
I think.I did see some notes on youtube that you have to pull the rear cover to
get at the back lifters.
Anthony will know he was in that deep. Or maybe M-chan will stop in.
I'm gonna do them every500k. The branch tube is what keeps the rears locked in. Thus removing the rear cover is a must. Kinda sux,, but it's a toss up,, remove the engine n reseal everything (if its leaking), or just pull the tranny n be done. Either way,,, it requires going deeper in than the head stud job tho. I would guess it would add about $1500-1700 to a job if paying for it at a shop. Otherwise,, you'd have to get the rear cover gasket, rear crank seal, hpo seals, n the lifters,,,
But yes, the 4 lifter kit is the way to go,,, thx to mike for pointing that out to me.
The lifters can be purchased for $10/ea if you spend the time to do the crossover. I'm getting mellng's from autozone when I put mine back together. They fit a LOT of different motors, including some GM's.
