73 390 intake 4bbl

So someone told me that the stock 4bbl intake manifold that doesn't have the oil fill on it is better then the manifold that has the oil fill ? Hmmm . My brother's highboy has the fill n my intake that's off ??? Year doesn't (was in a 83 f250). mine had a cam and holly street performer750 though but was way more nuts . His has 600 edelbrock , not a fan of edelbrock, ment for chevys in my opinion.

I would love to help, but I read your post a few times and I could not figure out what you were asking.

What "Oil Fill" are you talking about on the intake manifold.

Pictures would help also.

An example off a '66 427FE below. What do you mean "better"? For what application?

There are many intakes for the FE eninges so saying "better" without qualifying it is pointless. It's like saying the color red is better than the color blue.:

I think all of the intakes with fill tubes had the large ports.

All the oil fill/breather tube will signify is the intake is pre '65 (unless it was later drilled for an oil tube).

The oil fill/breather was moved to the valve cover in '65.

Thanks for the clarification. I had honestly never paid that close attention to the stock manifolds before. This is my first truck I am digging into that has an FE in it.

I would keep it as long as it works for the power you are building. I think it's cool and different.

As far as the factory cast iron intakes are concerned the "S" code intake is pretty decent, with better flow characteristics than the Edlebrock Performer 390.

Off idle response in a low geared heavy truck is awesome, and it pulls really strong from 800-3500 rpm, other intakes would make more peak power, but not where you need it most.
