I recently got a 72 f250 with a dana 60 in the back and an unknown axle in the front. I believe it is a dana 44 hd but im not sure. It has 10 bolts on the cover no numbers stamped anywere that I can see besides the 4.09 ratio tag and ball and socket type steering. I hope this is enough info to distinguish between the dana 44 and the dana 60. Thanks.
