can someone tell me what this piece is that is attached to the oil/temp/battery/fuel gauge? are they some sort of circuits? i cannot find the answer for the life of me!!!
they are instrument cluster constant voltage regulators
its job is to feed a constant stream of lowered voltage to your gauges '
when it fails the voltage is allowed to increase and all your needles are pegged to the right so say mac's antique auto parts #1spudman
HI ..just wondering ..the truck was positive ground when you convert to negitive ground do you need to change anything to get the gauge to read the right way ?? my charge gauge shows discharge instead of a charge ..still have no fuel or temp gauge ..could it be I have fried the voltage regulator ??

CVR's look similar but those are circuit breakers. CVR's are only used on 12v vehicles that have 6v gauges, which would be Fords from '57 thru the mid-'60's, or any that have been converted to 12v.
If you convert from positive ground to negative ground you need to reverse the direction of the ammeter wire as now the current flow is opposite, not hard to do.
Yes, disconnect the ammeter wire from the gauge, the wire goes through an inductive loop on the back of the gauge, pull the wire out of the loop and feed it through in the opposite direction then reconnect, should be long enough.
Gently. The loop is not exceedingly rugged.
Nor is it physically connected to the gauge. Unbolt it from the switch contact and re-stitch it through the gauge in the opposite direction. Just like sewing while standing on your head with eyes closed.
